AI-powered 3D Cell Analysis Enhances Personalized Medicine

Date:

Szeged researchers have made significant strides in personalized medicine with the development of an AI-powered 3D cell analysis platform. This system, known as HCS-3DX, automates the examination of three-dimensional cell structures, or spheroids. By utilizing AI-driven image processing and sample selection, the platform enables rapid and highly accurate screenings of cellular models, drastically reducing the time needed for analysis.

Ákos Diósdi, the lead author of the study, explained that their aim was to create an integrated platform that combines the best features of existing technologies. This platform is designed to be easily adopted in both research and industrial settings.

Dr. Péter Horváth, director of the Institute of Biochemistry at the HUN-REN Biological Research Centre and senior author of the paper, noted that one significant challenge in personalized medicine has been the slow pace of cell-based assays. The HCS-3DX platform addresses this issue by providing fast and precise large-scale analyses.

Currently, the technology is being tested on clinical samples in collaboration with the Heidelberg Children’s Hospital. Researchers are using miniature tumor models from pediatric brain cancer patients to determine the most effective treatments, further proving the potential of AI-powered 3D cell analysis in medical applications.
