A recent event celebrated the 50th anniversary of Thong Nhat Hospital.
Dr. Le Dinh Thanh, the hospital’s director, discussed how artificial intelligence (AI) and digital transformation are revolutionizing elderly care. He highlighted the growing role of AI in enhancing elderly treatment, rehabilitation, and care. However, he stressed that human interaction remains crucial in this process.
AI’s influence is increasingly felt in healthcare, he pointed out. It’s not just about machines; AI is becoming integral in elderly care, especially in home settings. Through constant monitoring, AI offers 24/7 support and helps reduce the burden on traditional healthcare providers. In hospitals, AI assists with early detection and more precise treatment options for elderly patients.
Thong Nhat Hospital is not only focused on cutting-edge medical practices but also aims to be a top educational center for geriatrics. Their goal is to create an advanced rehabilitation center that will provide elderly patients with the highest standard of care and improve their quality of life.
Over the past five decades, the hospital has developed into a specialized geriatric institution. It serves between 4,500 and 5,000 outpatients daily, with a 1,200-bed capacity. Despite its size, the hospital remains consistently full, primarily treating elderly residents from Ho Chi Minh City with complex medical needs.
The Geriatrics Scientific Conference, lasting a day and a half, brought together experts from around the world. The conference showcased over 200 presentations and fostered collaboration on how digital technologies, particularly AI, are transforming elderly care. The central aim of the event was to further enhance healthcare for the aging population.
