Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) has launched a new venture named Reliance Enterprise Intelligence Limited (REIL) in alliance with Meta’s Indian division. The collaboration seeks to create and expand artificial intelligence services designed specifically for businesses throughout India.
The partnership, revealed by Reliance Intelligence Limited — a fully owned RIL subsidiary — includes an initial joint investment of approximately ₹855 crore. Reliance will control 70% of the company, while Meta’s global unit, Facebook Overseas, Inc., will own the remaining 30%.
As per RIL’s disclosure, the creation of REIL is not classified as a related party deal and does not require governmental consent. First unveiled during Reliance’s Annual General Meeting in August, the initiative highlights the group’s growing ambition in AI-powered enterprise innovation.
The company plans to build, promote, and distribute enterprise AI platforms by leveraging Meta’s open-source Llama models alongside Reliance’s vast digital ecosystem. It will introduce two main offerings: an AI platform-as-a-service that lets firms personalize and operate generative AI systems, and ready-made AI tools for areas such as marketing, finance, IT operations, customer support, and sales.
A statement from Reliance indicated that REIL, incorporated in India as a wholly owned Reliance Intelligence subsidiary, will act as the official joint venture under the revised agreement with Facebook Overseas, Inc., a Meta Platforms Inc. affiliate. The entity will focus primarily on developing and delivering enterprise AI products and services across multiple industries.
Reliance’s AI division will invest ₹2 crore to acquire 20 million equity shares priced at ₹10 each. The initiative aims to make advanced AI infrastructure more cost-effective by enabling businesses to deploy solutions on cloud, on-site, or hybrid systems based on their operational needs.
During an earlier filing, Reliance’s Chairman and Managing Director Mukesh D. Ambani stated that the partnership intends to make enterprise-level AI easily accessible. He emphasized that the collaboration with Meta would empower Indian organizations by merging Meta’s open-source Llama models with Reliance’s cross-sector expertise, ensuring AI becomes a transformative tool for both startups and large corporations alike.
