Guangdong province has revealed a bold new strategy to enhance its manufacturing sector through artificial intelligence. The three-year initiative aims to position Guangdong as a global frontrunner in the integration of AI and industrial production.
The newly announced “Action Plan for High-Quality Development of Manufacturing Industry Empowered by Artificial Intelligence” will span from 2025 to 2027. The focus will be on increasing AI adoption, building a supportive infrastructure, and optimizing resources to fuel industrial growth.
Qu Xiaojie, deputy director of the Guangdong Provincial Department of Industry and Information Technology, emphasized that the goal is to scale up industrial AI. The plan includes fostering a support system for AI-driven manufacturing and expanding its application in key industries.
Guangdong, with its extensive industrial base, is uniquely positioned to embrace this transformation. The province represents nearly 12.5% of China’s total manufacturing output, covering all major industry sectors.
The region has already cultivated nine trillion-yuan industrial clusters, including in fields such as advanced electronics, green energy, and smart technology. These hubs will serve as vital grounds for testing and deploying AI technologies.
In addition, Guangdong is home to over 1,600 AI firms, with major ecosystems like Huawei Ascend and Tencent Hunyuan leading the charge. This AI manufacturing plan seeks to further strengthen this ecosystem and accelerate innovation.
Qu extended an invitation to global entrepreneurs, researchers, and investors to explore opportunities within Guangdong’s rapidly expanding AI sector. The government plans to provide extensive support to attract high-tech projects and talent, ensuring a thriving AI-driven manufacturing future.
