Robotics Highlighted at NYSDS 2025 Summit with AI Innovations

The New York Scientific Data Summit (NYSDS) 2025 showcased advancements in data-driven science on September 11–12 at the SUNY Global Center in New York City. Co-hosted by Brookhaven National Laboratory and Stony Brook University’s Institute for Advanced Computational Science (IACS), the summit focused on how robotics, AI, and machine learning are revolutionizing scientific exploration.

With four main themes — Generative and Agentic AI, Robotics and Embodied Intelligence, AI Applications, and AI Hardware and Infrastructure — the event included keynotes, technical sessions, and discussions. These sessions emphasized the latest breakthroughs and the challenges of building reliable, explainable AI systems for scientific research.

Robert Harrison, IACS director, highlighted the impact of advanced computing on scientific progress. In his keynote, he spoke about the state’s initiatives to advance AI research, reflecting on the NYSDS’s mission of fostering collaboration in data-driven science.

Lav Varshney, director of the AI Innovation Institute at Stony Brook, opened the Generative AI session. His keynote focused on how his work in information theory could foster new discoveries at the intersection of robotics and human creativity.
